VIJAYA WIDOW-HIV-Rising above stigma:

Though tremendous progress against AIDS has inspired to reduce the HIV infection, AIDS related death and related stigma, there is still a lot to rewrite for the future of thousands of children in India. Nobody dies of AIDS, they all die of fear and stigma. Social stigma and discrimination has killed more people than AIDS.

Vijaya had three daughters. Her husband was HIV +ive and he was killed by it. She was shattered by the neglect she and her children had to face. On being approached, JKF helped Vijaya keep her house running. JKF initiated a programmed for families of HIV +ive individuals. The support entailed providing living expenses and educational material support for affected and indirectly affected children. JKF touched Vijaya’s heart by providing the family with access to adequate nutrition and support for education.

That I can lead a normal life and bring up my daughter’s like all mothers. Keeps me going –Vijaya

Since then, VIjaya and her daughters had learned to live “Positively”, and with guidance of JKF, she has become a role model not just her daughters but to many suffering this stigma.

I am proud that my children have survived the years of trauma- Smiles Vijaya
