Johnson’s detail is even more depressing. He has two children-Ignatius Loyola and Vimmi in XIthgrade. The fishermen community are very well knit families and in times of unforseen tragic losses within the family, they take up the responsibilities of the children of the kin without a second thought. In a similar vein Johnson’s commitments does not end with his role to his immediate family alone; due to some earlier tragedies in the lives of his wife’s two sisters; their children too were cared for by Johnson’s labour. The elder sister Ophelia has an eight year old daughter Marie Daniel in IIIrd grade. Another sister Lousix Anitha has three children- Jeflin in Xthgrade, Jedson in VIIthgrade and Jesni in XIIth grade. All lived in Johnson’s house.Johnson was one among the first who went missing with the Ockhi disaster. Painfully, Johnson had been shouldering the responsibility of looking after the entire family, including his wife’s sister’s children .But today, the future of all these children seems bleak, she says. “All the children are studying. How will they all continue their studies?” Johnson’s wife laments.
