In our years of working with Prisoners we had a regular quote told to us by inmates- I am innocent but I am being falsely framed. Having heard it several times, we got so used to it, that we hardly give any serious thought to it, in fact when an inmate tells it to us, we smile and just walk on. However, when Murugan took up the same ‘I am innocent’ line we had some pressing intuition that there was some convincing credence in his lines.
A little about Murugan would be, he was accused of a crime and was instantly arrested and framed in a quick sentencing. Murugan has 5 children and his father sensing danger to his grandchildren shifted to another distant village.
Having a hunch we employed the services of a lawyer and the case was dusted up. We did our factual checking got our facts straight. Our friend Raja suggested some sincere lawyer friends, who were good enough to open up the case and dive into the details of the case. The honourable Judge who presided over the case brought up a new provision in the law fraternity. According to this when a pending case is to be taken up, the petitioner is supposed to donate a sum of Rs. 5000 or provide for the same to a government school in the locality. We wasted no time to abide by the Judge’s direction. The judge had divulged the case threadbare and hence once we provided acknowledgments of fulfilling the gift donation to the school, he instantly ruled Murugan to be released from Prison without delay. Now the family is free and the father labours and provides for his five children with the toils of his hand.
Beyond anything else is being framed for nothing of one’s own mistake. This was a case of second life for the family.
