Cyclone Ocki: An inconsolable child

A mother has not been able to stop crying.  Her son, Wifred, left for fishing on Krishma boat around late November. “He should’ve been back around the same time the cyclone struck. Now we don’t know where he is. Is he alive? Will we get him back?” an inconsolable mother asks. By her side is her daughter-in-law, now staring at an uncertain future. Wilfred has one seven year old daughter Guadalupa and Joel.S.Patrick who is one year and half. Guadalupa has a poor heart condition, till Wilfred was around he was taking special efforts to treat his daughter. Their house is the closest to the roaring sea. The sea is ever expanding its invasion into the beach and destroying what these poor fishermen build with risk and toil. On seeing us Wilfred’s mother came to us lifelessly, when we held her hand she just burst forth in tears and uncontrollable crying and grief and we too could not restrain the heart ache. It was an outlet of pent up grief, then she felt more peaceful.
